The BIG...Red, White, & Blue!!!

Happy 4th of July to my fellow Americans!
I am celebrating in style this year. I actually finished my BIG Red, White, & Blue quilt and she has been on my bed for a few weeks now. I experienced some emotions with this big quilt. This was my first attempt at multiple stars and I was so fixated with the points that I over steamed and stretched my blocks. Resulting in having to cut a few points on the outer edge to keep the quilt square...needless to say it was a sad day and I contemplated wither I should even have it quilted. On the good advise of others (thanks Kim :) and my SO, who reminded me not all is perfect in the world! I proceeded and I am tickled with it, LOVE it as a matter of fact.  I have Mary over @ Quilt Hollow to thank for the quilting, she did a great job!

SO...with all that being said, I hope you enjoy the holiday, however you should choose to celebrate...
I know, I will be sleeping under the stars!!!

I think this picture is cool...waving in the wind just like a flag!

Of course Anna had to sneak into the picture, she is such a ham.  Since we are empty nesters I refer to her as the "love child" she is so spoiled!

LOVE the stripes cut on the bias!  (click to get a close up of the feathers Mary quilted)

Enjoy the day!!!

  1. It's beautiful! I've cutoff more than a few points...heck the quilt on my bed, which my husband loves, has almost all the sampler blocks a bit big, which means they're almost all chopped off. I'm not perfect, life isn't and any quilt that is is beautiful but also kinda creepy.

  2. I just knew you'd be happy once this beauty was quilted and bound. The quilting certainly does bring a dramatic change to a quilt, brings it to life and highlights it's fine qualities, but it's your piecing work and love that make this one a special family favorite, nipped off points and all, lol, you just don't see those anymore once it's done. Did you know that a flaw brings good luck to a quilt! Old quilters lore says that each and every quilt must not be perfect or it would be bad luck, lol, so girl, between the two of us there's got to be a little good luck waiting for us and Mary has seen the proof, lol and she does know how to do wonderful things with a quilt. :-D Happy 4th of July!

  7. Your quilt is absolutely beautiful. Your piecing is so gorgeous and of course, Mary's quilting is exquisite. As for your 'love child', LOL...we have two of them. Just like your Anna, they are spoiled beyond belief. We always refer to them as 'the kids'. "Wonder what the kids are doing"? things like that, LOL. Well, I've had to put you on my favorites list because your blog is delightful. I absolutely love the picture in your header. I can almost feel the texture of those beautiful fabrics. Thanks for sharing the picture of your quilt.

  8. Beautiful!!!! I can see where "Quilt Hollow" misses this wonderful quilt. I live in Iowa too! It is a beautiful state! ----even though we have had a lot of rain. You have a neat blog, they are a lot of fun and you meet and learn so much from your fellow quilter. I started a blog a month ago and having alot of fun with it. Carolyn from Des Moines, Iowa!
